As usual it's never dull at our house... Sunday at church the girls were fighting over who got to sit on Tom's lap, so he was trying to hold them both. Brinkley was sliding off so he pulled her back up, and apparently pulled her elbow out of socket. He said he heard a pop when it happened and of course the rest of the congregation just heard screaming. He ended up taking her home and wrapping it up with ice. It didn't stop her from doing anything... we kind of thought she was mostly milking it :). Later that night we were at my parents visiting and Ashley stepped off a bench while trying to sit next to my brother. I thought at first that she was just scared, but as time went by it was obvious that her arm was hurting her. Thanks to Monica's help... we took her to a neighbors where a good doctor was willing to give us an opinion. We iced it all night and decided to take her to the doctor first thing in the morning. Of course the first question is, "Her Social Please..." and me stammering to explain the situation "I have no idea. Let me call her grandma and she can give you what you need" Half hour later all paperwork is sorted out and we are ready to go in. The nurse calls our name and bends down to Brinkley saying "so what happened to your arm?" I being in doubt, tell her that Brinkley is ok and it is Ashley who needs to be looked at. Brinkley loved having someone to tell everything to and proceeded to tell the nurse, "We were in church and my dad Popped me... that's why my arm hurts."
After more explaining the doctor decided that Brinkley is not ok and that both girls need X-Rays to see if their arms are ok. That in and of itself was an adventure. As soon as the X-Rays were taken Brinkley was miraculously healed and began bouncing off the walls. The doctor concluded that it had popped off kilter and when they moved her arm for the X-ray it popped itself back into place. Don't know what that will cost yet... but she was excited to see pictures of her bones! One kid down and one to go...
Ashley's X-ray looked ok. There was one small spot that he couldn't tell for sure so he sent the X-ray out for another opinion basically. They splinted her arm and she felt much better. Although, it's heavy and she keeps falling down and banging it on the ground. Lets just pray there is not a break or we will be making another visit to an orthopedic doctor.
So, we made it through those drama's very well and everyone was holding up fine. Last night I get a call from the Primary President that there is something going on in our ward that will effect our family. There has been an outbreak of Whooping Cough in the nursery and as long as your child has been immunized they should be fine. In keeping with my life as usual... Ashley has not received any immunizations and is at great risk of contracting it. According to the Health Department all the children and adults should be tested for it and if they haven't already they should get the vaccine immediately. And... The Health Department is not going to allow Nursery to be held for the next 2 weeks. (Perfect, an excuse to stay home :))
So... as if in Groundhog day I wake up this morning, call the doctor and attempt to explain another very strange situation to them. We go in and the doctor thinks that instead of waiting for the test to come back we should go ahead and get her on antibiotics immediately. This is a serious, fast spreading sickness... And the test results to see if you have it, only take 5-10 days. That make perfect sense!
And now off I go to the pharmacy to explain yet again a very long and strange story of our situation. I guess the moral of this story is that adventures happen every day! And I'm really grateful for healthy kids!
